You don’t need to search far and wide to find paradise – just head to the shores of unspoiled Kootenay Lake. That’s where you’ll find Mountain Shores, a year round recreational development that offers a true escape in the mountains of southern British Columbia. Creston is 45 minutes away, while Nelson is only 50 minutes away via ferry.

“Kootenay Lake is one of the most beautiful undeveloped lakes in this part of the province,” says Lynda Davidson, project manager, with Mountain Shores Development Corp. “So many areas have been overdeveloped, but here you can look out onto the lake and there’s hardly any boats on the water.

“It’s like a paradise out here”

Phase I of Mountain shores was a grated community of 12 lakefront and 22 cabin lots that sold out in record time. Now it’s time for Phase 2, dubbed Mountain Shores Acreage Estates. Overlooking Kootenay Lake and the mountain vistas, 28 lots are now available, ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 acres. “these lots are fully services, with water and sewer supplied by a utility company up to the property line,” says Davidson, adding that access to the subdivision is paved and will be maintained by B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation.

What you build on your lot is governed only by your imagination, budget, and a few architectural guidelines. Davidson says the year-round nature of Mountain Shores – coupled with a mild climate that rarely sees extremes – makes it a perfect option for both a recreation getaway or for full time living.

“Our prices range from $249,900 to #499,900,” she says. “It’s freehold – once you purchase the lot, it’s yours, and there’s no timeframe for building.”

A recently upgraded private marina is a major amenity, with lot buyers having the option of leasing a marina slip (some slips will even be supplied with electricity, water, and sewer). “This is a real bonus for our buyers,” says Davidson.

Developed by Patrick Lough, Mountain Shores makes a perfect home base for exploring the south side of British Columbia, such as the Town of Crawford Bay with it’s artisan community and unique shops only 15 minutes away. The Town of Creston also offers many attractions.

Mountain Shores is not far from three world-class golfing destinations: the Kokanee Springs Resort, the Creston Golf Club and the Balfour Golf Course.

But perhaps the community’s best amenity is Kootenay Lake itself. At 144 kilometres in length, it’s truly an undiscovered jewel. For lovers of sport fishing, there’s plenty to enjoy, including the world’s largest species of trout, the Gerrald rainbow, and the unique land-locked sockeye, the Kokanee salmon. (better make sure your Mountain Shores home plans include lots of wall space for the trophies!)

With only 21 of the 28 lots available for purchase in Phase 2, and with the price of waterfront land expected to continue to rise in British Columbia, this is a rare opportunity to establish a home base in a truly unique part of Canada.
